Postgraduate Study

Business School

PhD Business and Management

3 years full-time; 5 years part-time. MPhil also available (2 years full-time; 3 years part-time).

Beginning a research degree is perhaps the most exciting and demanding phase in any academic career. It marks the transition from being largely taught by others to becoming an independent academic, doing your own research and developing your own ideas. Our goal is to guide you through that process of becoming a fully fledged academic or researcher.

Our PhD/ MPhil programme is recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as meeting its criteria for research training. The Business School currently has approximately 85 academic and research staff, including 24 Professors and a wide range of intellectual appointees.

Research Proposal

Your application should include an extensive outline of your proposed topic of research. This should include a statement about why you have chosen the topic and what methodology you propose to adopt. No application can be considered without this outline. Doctoral students join one of our five Research Groups best matching their research interests (see the following list).

Entry Qualification

Honours degree equivalent of British 2:1 minimum, with a preference for Masters degree or first class honours equivalent. A Bachelors or Masters degree in English, or a TOEFL score of 600 or 6.5 IELTS score (subjects must be relevant to proposed area of study).

These are in addition to the General Entrance Requirements.
